I’ve never had a blogroll on any of my blogs. I don’t why. I’m not against them. I actually think they’re a good idea. I sometimes look for the blogroll on other people’s blogs to find new sites. But I never put two and two together. Well, until now.
If you look to the right, there is a new and improved blogroll. I intend to have about 20 links overall but for now, I just put down the sites that came immediately to mind. Some of the sites are owned by some of my readers, but that wasn’t done on purpose. One thing to note here is that even though there are some amazing sites out there written by freelance writers, I wanted to spotlight those that are specifically geared toward freelancers and/or freelance writing.
And one other thing: I’ve had this blogroll up exactly one day and I’ve already received four emails asking to be put on it. I’m not a DJ, so I’m not taking requests. I just want to give a shout out to the sites I feel are giving great info for freelancers. It will evolve as I have more time to identitify some more resources.
So take a moment and visit the links for more conversation about freelancing, writing and making it in “will write for food” kinda world.
Innovation and uniqueness has really been on my mind lately. It’s not just that I’ve been preoccupied with how I can make some upcoming projects stand out, but I’ve been reading about everywhere on the Interwebs, too. I read Candace Nicholson’s blog and had the opportunity to read her 5 Blog Posts Every Freelancer Blogger Should Stop Writing. I agree with her on most of it, especially the one about saving money. If I read another How to Save Money By Being Poor post, I’m going to scream. (Cue me writing that post next week. I’m kidding. Kinda.)

Remember when I told you that your freelance writing business needs a website? Well that hasn’t changed. You need a web presence. You need a place where potential clients can learn more about you because they WILL want to know more about you than your name and that you’d like to write stuff for them. You need a place where you can put your best foot forward. You need a website.
But here’s one more thing I’d like to say about your website: it needs a blog.

With very few exceptions, you want comments on your blog. You want me (and by “me” I mean your readers) to tell you what I think about your thoughts and ideas. You want me to add my own thoughts and ideas to the mix. So why are you making it so hard on me?

One of the coolest things about owning a blog is that you get to put all these interesting widgets and buttons on it. Take WordPress for instance. There are tons of plugins and little things you can put on your website to either make it better or make it easier to use. Even when I was still using Blogger, I had more than enough little widgets to keep me busy. But sometimes we all get so caught up in adding the coolest thing to our site that we don’t actually test them out. Let’s talk about the tweet button on your website. Take a moment to open another tab in your web browser and pull up your website. It’s okay. I’ll wait until you get back.
Read MoreLast week I read Let’s Do the Time Warp: My 7 Link Challenge on Marian Schembari’s blog. She copied Pushing Social’s post and his post says he copied Darren Rowse’s post on ProBlogger. Sure that’s a lot copying, but great ideas get a lot of footwork. This is a great lazy way to tell your readers about your blog. So here are my 7 links for the Diary of a Mad Freelancer:
