Great advice, Melissa. We moved 4 times in 4 years and it was proportionately more disruptive to the business than to my personal life, I think. I’m also glad to see someone else uses Excel to track their freelance business. I’ve never felt the need for anything more sophisticated. The spreadsheet pretty much shows me everything at a glance, and I keep my paper files up to date if I need to check something.

Ok, I admit I can’t offer any snazzy tricks or techniques for stretching my resources, but I just wanted to say thank you for the kick in the pants. There are chances to offer our services right in front of our noses every day (like when I pass a store whose sign reads, “We appreciate you’re business!”, but most of us don’t bother to take advantage of them – especially when we are busy. I myself am the queen of freelancing complacency sometimes, so I truly appreciate the reminder to make the most of every opportunity. Love reading your posts.

Great advise. I like it. I can think of a number of people to pass it on to. I’ve been a writer for 30+ years but I constantly remind myself that I can do better. It is always practice, always art – there is never an end to improving until you finally stop writing.

That is really educating. By the way I came to realize that at school we are taught only a small percentage of what we are supposed to know, approximately 30%. The other percentage is left for us to discover for ourselves.
